Melkbosstrand Private School #Changemakers look forward to heading boldly into 2023, and as a school, we are looking forward to doing more of what we do best – high touch education based on Christian principles in the best school environment any learner could wish for.

Some exciting key focus areas for MPS for 2023 include:

Ongoing Keller implementation:

The Keller methodology will continuously be implemented throughout our grades and phases, with the focus on learners being actively encouraged and nurtured by teachers. This is the engine behind our “High Touch Education” as the Keller methodology is based on the latest neuroscience research and drives the idea that play, recess, sport, creative expression, music and physical activities are as important as or equal to literacy, numeracy, science and technology.   MPS Primary learners have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Keller Active Readers programme which encourages learners to Be Active by spending afternoons playing, surfing, chilling, being with friends, walking on the beach, skateboarding, riding your bicycle, enjoying sport and to Be A Reader by spending at least 20 minutes a day reading a book – we look forward to encouraging and inspiring even more MPS Active Readers in the new year!
For Noah’s Ark this means a brand new Keller theme for 2023 – “Roadmap to Success!” – with the focus on helping the children become thinkers and entrepreneurs all while developing muscle control and strong bodies.  They will, through free-play, be encouraged to master the essential skills of collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creative innovation as well as developing their overall confidence.  Collaboration with parents with this theme involves encouraging parents to join in the drive to develop their little one’s confidence by allowing them to struggle and even dare to fail – a hard but valuable lesson for children and parents alike.

Emotional health:

Our learners’ emotional health is of utmost importance, and our focus will be on teachers being ‘in touch’ and in tune with learners as individuals – keeping their finger on the pulse of their emotional state.

Collaboration:

We look forward to building on the existing collaboration between ourselves and parents and creating an even stronger bond, as well as establishing tangible ties between each phase at MPS so that transitioning from one phase to the next in a learner’s journey is relatively seamless and as stress-free as possible.

Young Engineers:

This is an exciting new programme to be introduced in 2023 as part of the foundation phase from the grade Rs at Noah’s Ark right through to the grade 3s.  Young Engineers can be contacted directly to register for the programme as an extramural activity for the Grade 4 to 7 learners for 2023. The programme focuses on providing engineering related activities for learners from as young as 4 years’ old, so as to prepare them for the demands of the future ‘high tech’ work environment.  The Young Engineers ‘edutainment’ programmes provide theoretical knowledge and practical implementation of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics concepts for Early Childhood Development level as well as Robotics and Software Engineering concepts. The entire foundation phase is very excited about the prospect of this engaging, hands-on learning platform which promises loads of fun while learning through the combination of “experiments that create scientific intuition with stories that capture the imagination”

Agricultural studies:

Broadening the horizon of our newly established Agricultural studies which, as a subject, offers the learners opportunity to develop an array of skills including management, entrepreneurial, operational, marketing and research skills. There are some exciting prospects on the horizon for Agricultural Management Practices at MPS including erecting a fully-automated and electronic cattle handling facility at our school where our learners will be exposed to the latest precision technology used in agricultural management practices thanks to a partnership established with RFID Experts Africa.  We look forward to expanding our agriculture footprint and being part of the whole value chain involved with the agriculture industry and promoting this under our youth for the future.

Equine studies:

Plans are afoot to assess the feasibility of introducing Equine studies to the “MPS stable” of subjects.

Sport (High school):

The planning for Derby Sports Day with Long Acres in Langebaan is at an advanced stage  – watch this space for a confirmed date.
